Keep drinking safe. A good practice guide for dealing with vulnerable people.

Those working in the night time economy contribute to a fun, lively environment, and no two nights in their town or city are ever the same. Along with this, however, those on the frontline also regularly have to deal with situations involving vulnerable people. From alcohol-related illness to safety concerns, staff in licensed premises need to have their eye on the ball at all times.

To help you provide a safe drinking environment for all, Jo Cox-Brown, Director of Night Time Economy Solutions provides her top tips on dealing with vulnerable people.

What next following the end of FOBTs? - Nick Arron, Poppleston Allen Solicitors

1st April 2019 should be marked as a significant date in gambling regulation.  Although it was of no laughing matter to betting shop operators, it is hoped and expected that we will see a reduction in problem gambling within betting shops as a result of the reduction in the permitted stake on a B2 gaming machine, or FOBT, from £100 to £2.  Figures from 2018 show that revenue of £1.78 billion was generated by B2 machines in the betting shops, which represents 58% of their profits.  It is too early to tell to what extent the reduction in the value of the stake will reduce levels of

What have we been doing?

Here in the Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire area we have been very busy trying to spread the word to everyone who needs to apply for a New Authorisation. We have been in touch with local NFU branches, the RSPB, local IDBs and many others to provide information and support. We are also attending the Lincolnshire Show in June, in order to reach as many people as possible with these details. Similar things are being done nationwide to ensure that people have the opportunity to be compliant with the changes in law.

Greater Manchester Working Together

Greater Manchester Working Together

The ten Greater Manchester Councils are working together with Transport for Greater Manchester to improve air quality and introduce new minimum standards for taxi licensing.

Around 32 million trips are made in taxis and private hire vehicles in Greater Manchester each year. It’s an important way for many people to travel around the city region.

There are around 2,000 hackney carriages and over 14,000 private hire vehicles licensed by the ten Greater Manchester authorities.

Taxi blog, By James T H Button

What you think about when you get into a taxi (which for this blog means either a hackney carriage or private hire vehicle)? Probably where you’re going to: that could be home, out for the evening, to a railway station or hotel, or to the shops. You might also be thinking about what you’ve been doing before you got in the taxi; an evening out with friends or family, a theatre trip, shopping or work. What is quite likely is that you’re not thinking at all about the driver, the vehicle or the firm you booked through (if it’s a private hire vehicle).
